Win 4 - 1

In a battle of two of District 4’s top teams, the Eagles handled Marion 4-1 on Wednesday evening at the DHS courts.

Annually, Delta and Marion are the top contenders for the regional championship.  Most years Delta has maintained a small advantage in depth, and that was the case again in this match.

The Eagles swept doubles, with Maggie Hunt/Janet Wegener winning 6-1, 6-0 and Madelyn Haley/Iva Witter prevailing 6-2, 6-2.

In singles, sophomore Gabby Knight handed Marion sophomore Graciella Solis her first loss of the season.  The score was 6-1, 6-3.

At No. 3 singles, freshman Brylee Beckley defeated Marion senior Marley White, 6-4, 6-3.

Marion picked up its lone point at No. 1 singles.  In a matchup of two seniors, Marion’s Jaden Sebastian downed Gwendolyn Clark 6-1, 6-1.

Delta won the JV match 9-0 with no trouble.

The 22nd-ranked Eagles are now 9-4 and will play at 4:45 p.m. Thursday at Yorktown in the rescheduled SmashCancer match.
