Delta continued to roll through the IHSAA postseason by cruising to a 5-0 victory over Lapel in the championship match of the Marion Regional on Wednesday evening.
Lapel entered with a 21-3 record, but the Bulldogs were limited to only seven games by the Eagles. Emma Snider won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, and Mayzie Hinkle/Kortney Helm won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles. Both Emma Snider and the No. 2 doubles position are now 20-3 for the spring.
Delta (17-3) will face (Elkhart) Concord at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Homestead Semi-State. Admission is $5. The winner moves on to the IHSAA State Finals the following weekend.
Delta reached the State Finals in girls’ tennis in 2000 and 2011 and has been to the State Finals an additional five times in boys’ tennis.
The regional title yesterday was the Eagles’ fourth consecutive Marion Regional championship.
Ellie Snider improved to 17-6 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Maddie Shannon at No. 1 singles. Tynan Dishman won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles and is now 19-4.
Grace Belangee and Lexie Manor were 6-1, 6-2 winners at No. 1 doubles. They improved to 20-3 for the season.
