Delta High School Tennis

VS

Eastern (Howard County) (JV only)

Thursday, September 26th at 6:00 p.m.

The young Eagles came up clutch in several tiebreaks in a JV only match vs Eastern HS in Greentown on Thursday evening.

Delta JV won the match 9-4.  The teams agreed to play two out of three short sets to 4, which resulted in many tiebreaks.  Delta won 8 of the 12 tiebreaks in the match.

This was a match designed for younger players to gain experience.  Delta did not take seven of its top JV players to this match as they stayed behind to practice with the varstiy.

Freshman Roman Ashcraft played No. 1 singles and came up with the night’s biggest result.  He defeated Eastern freshman Ethan Heck 3-4 (4), 4-0, (7-5) to win a long, tough match.  Earlier this season Heck subbed into a varsity No. 1 singles match due to a teammate’s injury and then gained a huge victory over the defending conference champion from Rossville HS at varsity No. 1 singles!  Great win, Roman!

Freshman Graham Sieber and junior Alexander Smith played Heck and his partner in a doubles match.  This match was highly entertaining with many exciting points with Sieber/Smith winning 4-2, 4-2.

Freshman Reid Cardemon won a singles match by claiming two tiebreaks, 4-3 (2), 4-3 (5).

Two of our doubles teams won in third-set tiebreaks. They were Jacob Williams/Maddox Weddle and Grant Durkovich/Kiptyn Berry.

Jason Ogle and Jensen Moody won 4-1, 4-3 (4).

Denys Krushenytskyi won a singles match 4-2, 4-0.

Daniel Tokar won 4-3 (3) and was tied at 1-1 in the second set when darkness ended his match,

Next season, Delta and Eastern will continue to play a preseason scrimmage and a JV only match.  After that, they are hoping to possibly play at the varsity level in 2026 and 2027 as Eastern has several young, talented players.
