The 2019 Delaware County Tennis and Pickleball Open concluded on July 21 after a six-day event at the newly resurfaced Ball State Cardinal Creek tennis courts.
The top division singles winners were repeat champions,
Grant Esposito, current senior at Indiana Wesleyan University, won his fourth straight Delaware County Men’s A Singles championship. He beat Alec Robillard, junior at Ball State University, 6-3, 6-4 in the finals. Esposito beat former Delta HS and Butler star Zach Ervin in one semifinal, while Robillard topped former Marion HS and current Indiana Wesleyan standout Riley Worland in the other semifinal.
Burris senior Izzy Behrman won the Women;s A Singles championship for the second straight year. She beat Delta graduate and current Indiana Wesleyan player Ellie Snider in the finals, 6-0, 6-1.
The Men’s A Doubles champion also was a repeat winner. Alec Robillard won his third straight doubles title, teaming with Grant Esposito to beat Riley Worland and Jason Wegener, 6-3, 3-6, 10-8.
Behrman and Yorktown senior Sam Academia won the Women’s A Singles title.
Behrman won the Triple Crown as she and Delta senior Mason Knight claimed the Mixed A Doubles title, edging brother Charlie Behrman and Sam Academia in the final match in a third-set tiebreaker.
In pickleball, there were nine teams. The father-son duo of Jon and Taylor Hall won the title, beating the father son duo of Mike and Grant Esposito in the finals, Monty Mullins and Hannah Carpenter took third.
