For the final time on the current Yorktown tennis courts, the rival teams from Delta and Yorktown met for a Hoosier Heritage Conference match in front of a large crowd on Tuesday evening.

Spurred on by a 36-1 domination in singles, the Eagles cruised to a 5-0 road victory over the Tigers.

Yorktown is building a new 10-court complex just north of the school.  It will be open in time for girls’ season this next spring.

Singles players Adam Altobella, Owen Vest and Eli Arnold combined to drop only one game to the Tigers.

The doubles matches were closer, but Delta prevailed.

The evening’s closest match was at No. 1 doubles, where senior Walker Boyle and sophomore Dalton Royal faced the unbeaten duo of Yorktown juniors Ethan Darby and Rafa Sabijon.  The Yorktown boys built a 4-1 first-set lead, only to see Delta rally for a 6-4 victory.  Then in the second set, the Tigers again jumped ahead 3-0, but Delta again rallied for another 6-4 win.

At No. 2 doubles, seniors Mason Wrisley and Landon Freiburger won 6-4, 6-3.

Delta, ranked 30th, improved to 8-4 overall and 5-0 to stay in first place in the Hoosier Heritage Conference.

In the JV match, Delta was even more dominant.  The Eagles won 15 of the 16 matches and outscored the Tigers 93-13 in games.  The Delta JV team is now 8-1 for the fall.

The Eagles face 12th-ranked Fort Wayne Carroll at 5 p.m. Wednesday.  The match will be at a neutral site at Norwell HS courts.
