The annual Delta-Yorktown match took on even more significance this year on Friday, May 14.  It was the completion of the rain-delayed SmashCancer match as well as the celebration of senior night.

Supt. Reece Mann, who had chemotherapy for his cholangiocarcinoma earlier in the day, made a surprise appearance at the Senior Day ceremony.  The SmashCancer match resulted in a record-setting total of over $15,000 in profits to donate to the cancer organizations and beneficiaries:

> $8,000 to the Cancer Center at IU Health Ball

> $4,000 to the Little Red Door Cancer Services of ECI

> $1,000 to the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation in honor of Reece Mann

> $1,000 to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life

> $1,000 to the family of Delta senior Aubree Seals, whose father is battling Stage 4 cancer

The Eagles (14-2) played all seven seniors in varsity positions.

Six seniors swept the three varsity doubles positions.

Tynan Dishman and Maggie Manor won 6-0, 6-0.

Sara Cardemon and Mary Groover won 6-0, 6-0.

Laura Fowler and Jacy Bradley won 6-1, 6-3.

The seventh senior, Abigail Bamidele, had to move up to No. 1 singles in the absence of Gwendolyn Clark.  Bamidele fell 1-6, 0-6 to Yorktown senior standout Sasha Academia.

In the other singles match, junior Maggie Hunt won 6-0, 6-0; freshman Gabby Knight won 6-0, 6-0; and sophomore Gracie Williams prevailed 2-6, 6-2 (11-9) in a third-set tiebreaker.  She overcame two match points against her in her first-ever varsity singles match.

The Eagles won the JV match 14-0.
